South Africa and Namibia, A World Without Water: Landscapes and Adaptations
Barney Koszalka
Travel to remote places is in the heart of just about all photographers. Few places can get more remote than the backcountry of Namibia or the upper corners of South Africa. Yet these places are filled with beautiful, stark landscapes with an array of animals trying to survive.
Barney will share his thoughts and images from repeated trips to South Africa and a recent extended trip throughout Namibia. He will share his knowledge of both working in the field under harsh conditions and being ‘camera-ready’ for the unexpected.
Barney has photographed in Europe, South Africa, Tanzania, Botswana, Namibia, and Australia as well as throughout the US West. In addition to his interest in capturing the forms nature has to offer, he enjoys underwater photography, as well as documenting events and sports. He also supports the local art community by offering professional studio and printing services with a focus on jewelry, sculpture, paintings and folk art.
Barney’s nature work has been featured by the Sierra Club, recognized with numerous Explorer designations by Flickr, Member Choice awards in both Landscape and Plant Life by the Carolina Nature Photographers Association and is a finalist in the 2018 Comedy Wildlife Awards competition with an image taken here in GTNP. His studio art photography has appeared in a variety of advertising venues and craft books.
Barney will take us on a journey through the Sabi Sands region of South Africa and three different regions of Namibia, from the Red Dunes down south to the desert elephants and the Skelton Coast up north.
