Teton Photography Club May 2022 North American Wildlife Photo Competition


Theme
This is a North American Wildlife themed contest. Any Photograph of Wildlife taken on the North American Continent, in the air above the North American Continent or in water within 25 miles of the North American Continent is acceptable.  For this contest we are using National Geographic’s definition of North American.  This means Hawaii is not part of North American.

Number of Submissions
Up to four per TPC member. We will accept up to 70 images in total.  
If we receive more than 70 images the Competition Committee will eliminate photos to get to the required 70 images.  We will eliminate photos based on a number ranking you provide in your photos name.  See the Submission Guidline’s below on how to name and rank your photo
The Committee is made up of Beth Holmes and David Navratil.

Judging
Judging will be by Juan Pons a professional wildlife photographer will select the top 3 for each level and the Honorable Mentions.
Every photo will receive a critique from Juan.

Levels
There will be two Levels for this contest.  
Level 1 will be for beginners and intermediate members of the club.
Level 2 will be for Advanced and Professional members of the club.
Please submit your photos in only one Level.  If you have placed in the prior contest you are required to be in Level 2.

Prizes for each Level
We will award first, second and third place plus 2 honorable mentions for both Level 1 and Level 2.
1st Place for each level will receive a hour one on one session via Zoom with Juan Pons.
2nd Place for each level will receive a 45 minute one on one session via Zoom with Juan Pons.
3rd Place for each level will receive a 30 minute one on one session via
Zoom with Juan Pons.
Honorable Mentions will be receiving a gift card from B & H

Schedule
Entry Submission Opens May 1.  
Entry Submission Closes midnight Sunday, May 15th.
Competition can be attended via Video Conference May 18th 7pm. (Zoom)

Guidelines and Restrictions

Number of Submissions:  Each TPC member in good standing may submit up four images

Copyright Ownership:
● Images must be the original work of the member submitting them.
As a condition of entering the competition, the member grants to TPC a nonexclusive license for the purposes of this contest to reproduce and publish the image(s) in printed and/or electronic form for promotional purposes only.

Enhancement is permitted. Enhancement includes post-processing techniques to improve color, brightness, dynamic range (HDR), focus stacking, removal of sensor dust spots etc.

Manipulation is not permitted. Manipulation means adding anything not in the original
image, removing anything from the original image, or, moving anything within an image.

Permitted:
●Any Photograph of Wildlife taken on the North American Continent, in the air above the North American Continent or in water within 25 miles of the North American Continent is acceptable.  For this contest we are using National Geographic’s definition of North American.
● Post-processing correction to eliminate elements not part of the original scene such
as sensor spots, dust, stray hairs, etc.
● High Dynamic Range (HDR) images.
● Focus Stacking of multiple images of the same subject to increase depth of field.
● Panoramic images composed of multiple exposures stitched together. However, bear in mind that some panoramas may not display well on screens
● Black and White images, whether captured in camera or converted in post
processing.
● Time Lapse images, where many images of the same scene.
taken over a period of time and combined into a single image.
● Multiple Images of the same subject taken with slight movement of camera between frames and combined into a single image.
● Infrared images.
● Selective or global lightening or darkening, color correction, sharpening, noise
reduction and the use of creative processing tools in Photoshop or plugins such as
Nik Filters, On1, Luminar4, Topaz, etc. are permitted.
● Images taken in a studio environment.

Not Permitted
● Photos or wildlife in zoo’s, wildlife parks or captured/stunt animals
● Photos of wildlife outside of the North American Continent. For this contest we are using National Geographic’s definition of North American.  This means Hawaii is not part of North American.  

● Borders, visible watermarks, copyright notices and photographer’s names or any other added text is not permitted.
● Images where any living creature appears to be stressed or harassed by humans in any way will be disqualified.

Provided that they conform to the above rules, images taken with smartphones, tablets
etc. and images processed using Smartphone Applications are permitted.

Submission Guidelines

Please read the Submission Rules very carefully before you submit.
STEP 1: File Preparation
– Each image must be a jpg file format,
– File name for each image must follow this format
firstname_lastname_Level#_ImageTitle_Rank#

For example: Jane_Doe_Level1_Crazy Bison_1.jpg

firstname is your First Name
lastname is your Last Name
Level# is either 1 or  2.    1 is beginners and intermediates.  2 is for advanced  and Experts or if you placed in previous contest.
ImageTitle is your name for that particular image.

Rank# is 1,2,3 or 4.   1 being the highest and 4 being the lowest.  If we have more than 70 photos we will eliminate the 4s first to get down to the required number.  If we still have too many photos we will eliminate the 3s etc.

IF YOU DON’T FOLLOW THESE FILE PREPARATION GUIDELINES, YOUR IMAGE WILL NOT UPLOAD CORRECTLY.

STEP 2: Upload files
When you are done, upload your Wildlife image(s) to the dedicated Dropbox folder named “Wildlife” located here. 092AMtrrftMKxNbSAIJK
