Let’s work with the Wyoming Star Gazers for a dark nigh photo experience.
Here is what they are asking for:
Dear JH Photographers,
I wanted to reach out because I’m in the process of planning a big community event for this August’s Perseid Meteor Shower. I’m trying to organize a Lights Out Challenge for Jackson Hole. The idea would be to have individuals, businesses, and the Town/County turn off their exterior lights from 10:30pm-11:30pm on August 11th. There will be an actual event hosted that evening to watch the meteor shower at the Center for the Arts.
Here is where you come in. I am hoping that local photographers can help Wyoming Stargazing capture pre and during-event photographs of the night sky around Jackson and around the valley to hopefully show a difference in the darkness of the night sky during that hour.
You would just need to take two untracked exposures (one landscape and one portrait) at the same exact location of the same portion of the sky during the time of the event and the night before the event at the same time (or another night with the same phase of the Moon at the same time prior to the event) with the following settings:
30 sec exposure
3200 ISO
lowest f-stop your camera allows
Please let me know if you’re interested. I am currently putting together a list of locations in town and around the valley.
Thanks,
Samuel Singer
